What are the advantages of using the visa assistance offered by Hanze UAS?

If you need a visa to study in the Netherlands, you have the choice of applying for it yourself, through the Dutch embassy in your home country, or to ask Hanze UAS to apply for your visa.

If you apply for your visa yourself, the procedure may take three to six months, sometimes even longer. Hanze UAS can apply for a visa on your behalf using a fast-track procedure. This procedure usually takes a little over a month, depending on the Dutch embassy in your home country.

If you choose to ask Hanze UAS to apply for your visa, you are required to transfer a financial guarantee to our bank account before we start the application procedure. If you apply for your visa yourself, you do not have to pay a financial guarantee before you come to the Netherlands, but the Dutch Immigration Authorities (IND) will require you to be able to prove that you have sufficient financial means to support yourself. Presently, the IND requires that you have € 740.38 per month. If you want to stay for one year, you will need to be able to prove that you have 12 times this amount.

The IND charges a fee for both visa application and residence permit application. If Hanze UAS applies for your visa through the fast-track procedure, the IND visa fee will be € 250; this sum is included in your financial guarantee. If you arrange your own visa, the IND visa fee will be € 433. On top of that, for both procedures, a fee of € 188 will need to be paid for your residence permit.

Summarizing:
Do it yourself
• takes at least 3 to 6 months
• IND visa fee is € 433
• IND residence permit fee is € 188
•  transfer of financial guarantee is not required

Use Hanze UAS visa assistance

Living in the Netherlands

How can I find (student) accommodation?

A growing number of international students come to Groningen to study at Hanze UAS. One of the challenges all these students have to deal with is finding suitable accommodation. Higher education institutions in the Netherlands do not own accommodation for students, so both Dutch and international students need to find housing for themselves. Hanze UAS has an official agreement with a professional organisation that finds furnished housing for international students in Groningen. This organisation is known as the Housing Office. You can apply for furnished accommodation by filling in the online application form at housingoffice.nl. Please read the instructions and conditions of the Housing Office carefully.

You should take into account that rooms will be given on a first-come-first-served basis. There also may not be enough rooms for all students. We therefore want to stress to the importance of applying as early as possible. We advise you to apply before 1 November and before 1 June.

Is it easy to find a job in the Netherlands?

Please do not count on earning a lot of money with a part-time job. You may find it quite difficult to find a job, since part-time jobs are hard to find and there is a lot of competition.
EU/EEA-students are allowed to work freely in the Netherlands.
Non-EU/EEA-students are allowed to work for either 10 hours per week or full-time for 3 months in the summer, but only after they have obtained a work permit.
