Increase your knowledge, sharpen your intellect, and broaden your horizons.
Studium Generale organises lectures and debates about science, culture and society for a wide audience. Annually, some 10,000 people attend one of our activities. Studium Generale, which is a co-operative organisation of the University of Groningen and Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen, invites speakers from the Netherlands and from abroad to speak on a wide variety of topics.
These activities form an antidote to over-specialisation and are meant to supplement the regular curricula of the study programmes offered by the University of Groningen and Hanze UAS. Through the lectures and debates, Studium Generale enables students, staff, and other citizens of Groningen to increase their knowledge, deepen their insights, broaden their horizons.
Studium Generale regularly invites speakers from abroad, so a fair amount of the activities are in English. A schedule of events can be found on the Studium Generale website: studium.hosting.rug.nl
