students win energy battle

'The jury was pleasantly surprised by the high quality'

Ismaël and Chris were part of an outstanding group of students who won the NRG Battle 2010.

Gert Jan Lankhorst, CEO GasTerra and Chairman of the jury, commented as follows: “The jury was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the eight final presentations. It was very good to notice that the presentations had improved compared to the preliminary rounds. Most teams had really managed to add value to their subject. Therefore it was hard to pick a winner, but in the end the jury unanimously agreed on the best team performance. The winner is a team that scored on all dimensions, economic, ecologic and social. The team Grontmij developed a concept for a sustainable energy park. They worked out a technical approach by making a pinch analysis of the production cycles and chains within the park. This showed possibilities to gain efficiency by making use of different streams. Moreover they integrated the energy park in its local environment, trying to find ways to let the local population benefit from the presence of the park in their neighborhood. In the time between the preliminaries and the finals the team visited the project site and tested their ideas with the management of the customer. The jury was impressed by the content and the presentation of this concept. Therefore the team Grontmij is the absolute winner of the Energy Battle 2010.”
