Twice a year, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen (Hanze UAS), organizes a Welcoming Day for all new international students. Attending this day is free of charge but please do register here.

The next Welcoming Day will take place on 30 August 2013
9.00 – 10.00 hrs Arrival at Hanze UAS Campus, tea & coffee reception
10.30 – 13.00 hrs
Welcoming speeches by the deputy major of the city of Groningen and a member of the Executive Board of Hanze UAS;
explanation of social programmes by representatives of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and IBS-Union;
introduction to Dutch Culture and Education
13.00 – 14.30 hrs Lunch and information market, possibility to:
- register for a social introduction programme
- opening a bank account
- insurance matters
- Only for non-EU students:
14.00 hrs
Immigration session: the IND will be present to issue residence permits, the GGD will be here to do a TBC check-up (which is mandatory for most non-EU students) and the Municipality will be here to register you as a citizen of Groningen.
For your registration as a citizen of Groningen, you need to complete the following form and you need to bring the following documents:
- Your passport or ID
- Your rental agreement
- Your residence permit (non-EU/EEA nationals)
- Your legalized* birth certificate
- Your legalized* marriage certificate (if applicable)

Erasmus Student Network Groningen (ESN) will organize a social introduction programme for all new international students in Groningen, see the ESN Introduction Week.
Get an impression of a Welcoming Day
Our previous Welcoming Day, on 31 August 2012, welcomed more than 600 new international students. The students are from a wide range of countries: Argentina, Belgium, Brasil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Morocco, South Korea, Spain, and the United States.
