Requirements
Before you start with your application, carefully read the requirements of the fund you're applying for. That may seem logical but many people fail to do this. If you're not sure if you meet the requirements of the fund, contact the fund by phone. Making an application is a lot of work. When your application doesn't meet the requirements of the fund, you have done all this work with no chance at a positive result.
Own means in proportion to resources from funding
When you make an estimate for an application, you have to take into account how much money is acquired from revenues, advertisements, sponsors etc. in relation to money obtained from funding. A project funded with just resources from funds and subsidizers is not very likely to be successful. 50% own resources is generally seen as the absolute minimum.
Project description
Don't apply for funding until you have a clear view of what your project will have to be like.
When you hand in your application to soon, chances are your estimation of the budget needed is to low.
Administration
Funds want to know how their money is being used and will allways ask for a report. Make sure your administration is in order.
