The Joint Music Master for New Audiences and Innovative Practice was initiated by the lectorate and developed with five European conservatoires. The programme, wich was funded by the European Commission, provides future professional musicians with the skills and knowledge to become artistically flexible practitioners, able to develop and lead creative projects in diverse artistic, community and cross-sectoral settings.
A pilot for the Master programme took place in the academic year 2008-2009, which was completed in the autumn of 2009. You can find more information about the Joint Master on the project website.

Collaborative partners: Royal Conservatoire The Hague, Guildhall School of Music & Drama London, Jyväskylä UAS School of Music, Iceland Academy of the Arts, and seven external partners from four countries.
Joint Master Pilot year
The academic year of 2008-2009 was the pilot year for the Joint Master with five to seven students per conservatoire. Parts of the programme were tested, such as the following four compulsory modules, and also mentoring and teacher exchange:
1. Action Research (AR): a focus on the application of research skills, as well as research methodology and literature.
2. Leading and Guiding (L&G): an introduction to the skills and knowledge necessary to be a competent workshop/laboratory practitioner and creative leader.
3. Performance and Communication (P&C): intensive encounters with examples of best practice in respect of innovative performance practice in a variety of contexts.
4. Project Management and Entrepreneurship (PME): the conceiving, implementing and realising of project/business ideas.
Mentoring and the testing of the IT-environment was also part of these courses. Some institutions also tested a range of optional modules. For an overview of these optionals see the development website of the Joint Music Master.

Handbook How to Develop a Joint Programme in Music
Together with the AEC (Association Européenne des Conservatoires) the Research Group developed a handbook. It describes the steps which are necessary for the setting up and implementation of a joint (master) programme in music. The objective of the book is to support institutions in setting up a similar joint programme, with practical advice and examles from the joint master programme 'Music Masters in New Audiences and Innovative Practice'. So it is a combination of a practical handbook and a description of good practice.
The handbook does not claim to be complete and will be amended and completed at a later date with information about assessments and implementation.
