Research and Innovation Group in Health Care and Nursing

Themes and target groups
Welcome to the Research and Innovation Group in Health Care and Nursing
At some point in time, nearly everybody will have to face health care issues and everybody wants the best care at that moment. The research and innovation group in Health Care and Nursing is committed to ensuring high quality allied health and nursing care. This commitment is expressed in applied research and innovation projects concerning the chronically ill, children and the elderly. Behavior & Health and the Organization of Care are important themes in that respect.

Behavior & Health
Smoking may cause lung cancer and overweight may cause diabetes. Many disorders are associated with unhealthy lifestyles. On the other hand, chronic diseases influence that lifestyle. Research questions associated with this are: how can elderly people stay fit and independent as long as possible? How can a chronically ill person remain active and consequently slow down further deterioration?

Organisation of Care
The Dutch population is ageing while the demand for good care is increasing and the number of healthcare employees is falling. Optimal task divisions within health care organizations and cooperation between care providers are becoming increasingly important. An example of this is investigated in a study on the shifting task division between the dental hygienist and the dentist.

Multidisciplinary
In order to reach a high level of achievement, the research group in Health Care and Nursing cooperates with other disciplines and organizations. Research is conducted by lecturers/researchers or employees of healthcare institutions. All the projects involve students.
