International collaboration
Both the bachelor as the master programmes of Academy Minerva have an expanding programme of internationalization. The programme of the FMI Masters is oriented toward a number of Master’s degree study courses at the Institute. For example, the FMI Masters have developed an intensive co-operative exchange with the Master of Fine Arts programme at the Hunter College of the City University in New York. In addition, a co-operative relationship between the FMI Masters and the School of Design of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia has existed since 2007, and the MFA IME department started in September 2010 a co-operative relationship with the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Ireland.
For the MFA Painting programme, these co-operative ventures consist of an exchange of students and tutors, joint projects, and an exchange of knowledge. A number of students of MFA Painting can, on request and if their work provides sufficient reason for this, go to New York or Pennsylvania for one or more months to participate in the study programmes there. During the assessments in June, the tutors will decide which First year student(s) will go on exchange to the Hunter College in New York or the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in the third semester, and for MFA IME which student(s) will go to Dublin, duration on advice and in consultation with the tutors and the host institutions.
In addition, MFA Painting and MFA IME receive one or more exchange students from these universities in the fall or the spring term, and these follow the programme of the FMI Master for several months.
As a visual artist, you are actually always operating from an international perspective in view of the fact that visual language has a universal character. The educational programme at the FMI Masers is strongly oriented toward an international context. The excursions of the Institute to New York and Linz in the past few years are classic examples of this. Besides there will be organized during the study programme several study trips to visit or attend exhibitions, workshops and festivals in other (foreign) cities and countries.
