Johan Hekman is a Practical Instructor at HIT. He gained his Bachelor of Applied Science in Biotechnology at the Hanzehogeschool in 2004. Prior to this he studied Chemistry with Bio-analytical Differentiation in Emmen. His internships have included the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Groningen and the Pathology Department of the University Medical Centre, also in Groningen.

Mr Hekman has worked as a researcher for several industrial chemical companies, including Bioclear BV and Imenz Bioengineering BV, as well as technical assistant work in various schools and colleges.
