3 year programme

Admittance directly into the three year main phase
Talented students may be eligible for admission directly into the three year main phase, thereby reducing study time by one year. To be eligible, you need to demonstrate outstanding knowledge in the fields of mathematics, science and English and possess the required professional skills necessary for the main phase of the programme.  Students who wish to enter the three year programme will be assessed at the beginning of the year.

As HIT is an international school, a comprehensive understanding of English is a must. The minimum English language level required for entry to the 3 year programme is two B2 and two C1 Common European Reference Framework (CEFR) scores, distributed among the categories of reading, writing, listening and speaking. If you have taken an IELTS test, the required score is 6.5, with no subscores below 5.5.

Excluded from the English test are:
• Students from the following countries (native speaker or education exclusively conducted in English and completed in): Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or USA.

 
Intake papers

Introduction
Students who wish to be admitted to the 3 year programme must submit three intake papers:

  • A paper describing your personality 
  • A paper explaining your highest achievements
  • A paper of motivation

Through these papers the Admission Committee will have insight professional attitude and motivation.

Directions

  • Papers should be written in English
  • 2400 words maximum for all three papers (average 800 words per paper).
  • Papers must be sent as one Word document, PDF-file or as plain text. The name of the applicant must be included in the title of the document.

 
Personality paper
Answer the following questions:

  1. How would you describe yourself?
  2. If your best friend were to write about your character, how would they describe your values and what is most important to you? 
  3. What is your 'dream future'?

 
Achievements paper
Answer the following questions:

  1. What are your two biggest achievements and how did you achieve them?
    Include in your answer:
    • Your initial goal.
    • The individual steps you took to achieve it.
    • The obstacles you encountered and how you dealt with them.
    • The final result.
  2. Give an example of a personal experience you have had when explaining/presenting to other people your idea or your solution to a problem .
  3. Give an example of an experience where you encountered values and standards different from your own and how you dealt with them.
  4. Give an example of an experience where you cooperated within a group. You must describe:
    • the initial goal of the cooperation
    • the individual steps you took in interaction with your team members to achieve it
    • the obstacles you encountered in the cooperation and how you dealt with them
    • the final result
  5. Give an example of a 'big change' in your life that you initiated.

 
Motivation paper
Answer the following questions:

  1. Why do you want to study Advanced Sensor Applications?
  2. What motivates you most?
  3. How would you like to contribute to society?

These papers must be in before June 1st. Based on the completion of these papers, the Admissions Committee will indicate the likelihood of your success in the professional competencies component of the 3 year programme. If the Admissions Committee approves your application, you will take part in a three week assessment programme that takes place at the beginning of the academic year. During the three weeks, you will complete a number of assessments, which will demonstrate whether you possess all the competencies needed to be admitted into the main phase.
