International students, studying for one or more years in The Netherlands, are advised to open a Dutch bank account. You will need it for many important reasons, including payment of rent, study aids, insurance, groceries and other day-to-day costs.
Most banks require a Sofi-number (Dutch social security number), proof of civil registration or a residence permit before a bank account can be opened. However, the ABN AMRO Bank only requires the following information:
• Original passport
• Letter of acceptance with home address
• Rental contract (in The Netherlands)
An ABN AMRO Bank representative will be present at the HIT Introduction Day to assist students in opening an account.
