Exchange Programme Life Science

Introduction/General

The Life Science Programme consists of an international semester that focuses on introducing the rapidly expanding fields of Proteomics and Metabolomics. These research areas involve the systematic, large scale analysis of proteins and metabolites produced by (cultured) cells and organisms. Due to the fact that almost all biological processes in living cells and organisms are carried out by proteins, knowledge of their expression levels, localization, structure, interaction and biochemical function is important in our understanding of biological systems in normal and diseased situations.

The aim of Proteomics and Metabolomics is therefore to discover biological pathways and networks, not only in individual cells but also on the level of organisms. The analysis of various aspects of these research areas involve a diverse range of technologies and laboratory techniques, including mass spectrometry and bioinformatics. |

The Life Science Programme is one of the three specializations offered in semester 6 of the Bachelor study Biology & Medical Laboratory Research.

This semester will be taught in English and awards 30 ECTS upon completion.
