The duration of the MBA part-time programme is 28 months, and is spread out over five semesters. The majority of the course work and projects will take 2 years, and the fifth semester is devoted to finishing the MBA thesis. The total size of the programme is 90 ects. Evening lectures will be scheduled once a week, with incidently additional meetings on a Saturday.
Year One (semester one and two)
The first year begins with a short introduction to the programme and to the city of Groningen, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen, its facilities, and the MBA staff. Following the introduction, the following courses are offered:
- Marketing Management
- Human Resource Management
- Personal Development & Leadership
- Strategic Management
- Financial Managemen & Accounting
- Operations Management
Year Two (semester three and four)
Students deal with more complex, inter-related management issues in their second year. Acting as a consultant to a company, they will solve a real-life international business problem. Students are offered electives for focus on a particular topic of interest. The following courses are included:
- Managerial Skills & Competences
- New Economic Realities
- Business Research Methods
- Innovation & Entrepreneurship
- Intercultural Competences in Business
- Integrative Project
- Elective (for example: Doing Business in Thailand, International Workshop, Assessing Your Future)
Semester Five
In the final semester, students will focus on their MBA theses, which involves applied research in a company anywhere in the world. Besides providing the relevant knowledge about business management during the first two semesters, students are required to select a topic and a business setting for their MBA thesis already during the first year, and further develop their thesis proposal during the second year. The actual research and writing the thesis are undertaken during the fifth and final semester.
