The Prince Claus Conservatoire is the only institution for higher music education in the three northern provinces and has around 350 conservatorium and preparatory level students. The conservatorium is located on the Veemarktstraat, close to the centre of Groningen. Apart from the facilities of the main conservatoire building which houses a large, multifunctional concert hall (Andrea Elkenbrachtzaal), students can make use of a number of rooms in the Singelhuis, just a few minutes walk away. The Singelhuis houses a small concert hall/theatre (Singlezaal) and three studios for recording and editing music. The studios are linked to the Singelzaal so that live recordings of concerts can be made.
Accommodation
The Prince Claus Conservatoire has a number of apartments and living spaces that are specially designed for musicians. In October 2006 a large house was converted into 15 separate rooms/apartments. This house is situated in Zuiderpark, between the conservatoire (3 minutes walk) and Groningen train station. The conservatoire also has an agreement with the housing corporations “De Huismeesters” and “Nijestee”. They manage several self-contained apartments which are exclusively for use of students of the Prince Claus Conservatoire.
