Welcome to the Prince Claus Conservatoire

The Prince Claus Conservatoire stands for live music in an active environment, every day afresh. There are many reasons why eighty percent of our students make a conscious decision to study in Groningen: it is not massive and anonymous institution, we find direct contact with our students important; possibly also because we have been chosen as best conservatoire in the Netherlands for four year in a row by the Choice guide Higher Education; or because we are part of a large network of conservatories spread over the whole world. Another reason to choose Groningen is the presence of top international teachers who inspire students to achieve great success. A prime example of this is ‘New York comes to Groningen’: Jazz teachers from the ‘Big Apple’ giving you weekly the very best in jazz education, in Groningen!

Choosing a lifestyle
Studying at the Prince Claus Conservatoire is inspirational but also strenuous. You are choosing a profession and a lifestyle. The selection process takes the form of an entrance examination. Everyone who is accepted works unrelentingly to prepare themselves for a career as musician (performing or teaching) or music entrepreneur. Our students study with vigour, perform frequently, and take part in intensive periods of work experience/internships. If you have been involved with music from a very young age, then you are probably already accustomed to a daily practice regime and do not see it as work. But be prepared to shift your study mode up a couple of gears with us, naturally with the help of our teachers and the extensive experience of the whole staff.
Innovative
Classical music in the Netherlands is still seen by many people as stuffy and conservative, an austere show in formal attire. Of course you know better than any that that isn’t the case, just like our teachers who are active in the profession. The Prince Claus Conservatoire will inspire you from all directions so that you can develop your talent to the best of your ability. We have been known internationally for years for our innovative ideas in teaching music and music teaching. Our institution is named in honour of the late Prince Claus, we have been inspired by his vision of youth, culture and art.
