New Flute Teacher: Egbert Jan Louwerse

Groningen, July 2012 – As of September 1st, Egbert Jan Louwerse has been appointed as new flute teacher at the Prince Claus Conservatoire, part of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen. He takes over from Wieke Karsten who has been flute teacher at the Prince Claus Conservatoire for more than 15 years.

Egbert Jan Louwerse studied Flute with Pieter Odé at the Sweelink Conservatory and with Marieke Schneemann at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with whom he graduated at the highest possible level, specializing in Modern Music.

Besides flute playing he did courses in conducting, music with "Live-electronics" and composition. He also studied the complex rhythm and microtonalitiy of the Carnatic Music, the classical music of South India.

Egbert Jan’s main interest is chamber music. He is one of the flutists of the Dutch Flute Quartet and forms a duo with harpist Vera Kool. He is flutist with the ensemble “Blow Up!” and with the interntional Occult Ensemble, which is specialized in modern music.
Egbert Jan won several prizes and played with famous musicians as Peter Brunt, Pauline Oostenrijk, Stefan Metz and Ken Hakii. He is a teacher in flute and chambermusic at the School of Arts in Woerden and co-owner of N.F.D.Flutes, a company specialized in flutes.
