Swingin’ Groningen July 12 to 14

Once again the jazz department of the Prince Claus Conservatoire is fully involved in Swingin’ Groningen 2012. On Thursday July 12, the Talent Contest for the GasTerra Energizing Future Talent Award takes place.

Last year, six PCC students participated in the contest: the winner was Daan Kleijn, who graduated in 2011 and is now living in New York. This year, the PCC and Swingin’ Groningen invited five international conservatoires.
The candidates come from conservatoires in Aarhus and Copenhagen (Denmark), Stockholm (Sweden), Hamburg (Germany) and Tallinn (Estonia). Our school is presented by trombone player Odei Al-Magut! The candidates will be accompanied by Joris Teepe, Joost van Schaik and Marc van Roon.

Students from the conservatoires in Hamburg, Aarhus and Groningen were put forward for the Kehrwieder Young European Jazz Laboratory. This band will play at ElbJazz in Hamburg, Swingin’ Groningen, and the jazz festival in Aarhus. From Groningen the following students are in the band: Suzan Veneman, Giacomo Caruso, Alex Logozarov and Eun Jung Joo.

On Saturday July 14, our New York comes to Groningen Top Ensemble will perform with trumpet player Randy Brecker on one of the main stages of Swingin’ Groningen.
