Groningen, 2 February 2010 – The Prince Claus Conservatoire, part of the Hanze University Groningen, has submitted an application for the financing of the HBO master programme Master of Music. Minister Plasterk has turned down the application.

Teachers of the jazz department joined together to forme a new Big Band. They will give their first concert during the open day of Prince Claus Conservatoire on March 6, 2010.

Robin Eubanks and JD Walter join the jazz faculty
As of September 2010 tromboneplayer Robin Eubanks and vocalist JD Walter will be joining the New York comes to Groningen faculty at the Prince Claus Conservatoire jazz department. These New York musicians each teach for one week as part of a rotating system of 8 New York based musicians, returning every 2 months or so for the duration of the school year.

Projectweek with workshops and arranging classes by David Kikoski, Gene Jackson, Joris Teepe, Marc van Roon, Ab Schaap, Rob Horsting, Alex Sipiagin and Kurt Weiss
Every day from 10.30 to 6 PM and Wednesday from 10 to 5.30 PM

Arranging workshops are daily from 10.30 - 12.00 hrs uur and 13.45 - 17.30 hrs in the Singelzaal, Radesingel. You are most welcome to attend. Final concert on Friday April 23, 19 hrs. in the Singelzaal, Free admittance.

The Professorship Lifelong Learning Music & the Arts, a part of the Art & Society Centre of Applied Research and Innovation, will receive a subsidy of 300,000 Euros for its application entitled “Ouderen en Muziek” (Senior Citizens and Music).

Special Quality Characteristic International Policy towards Prince Claus Conservatoire
The Dutch Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO) has granted the Music programme of the Prince Claus Conservatoire –department of the Hanzehogeschool Groningen- with the Special Quality Characteristic International Policy. This is an exceptional certificate besides the standard accreditation for programmes which are excelling in a specific field. The granting of the special characteristic means that the Prince Claus Conservatoire is distinguishing itself from other conservatoires in the Netherlands and Europe in the field of International Policy expressly and demonstrably.

Engaged Passions, searches for Quality in Community Contexts is the final result of the research project Quality and Community Engagement of the Research Group Lifelong Learning in Music & the Arts. Peter Renshaw is former Head of Research & Development of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London and a member of the group of researchers of the Research Group. Engaged Passions is available in print in selected bookshops and on amazon.com and eburon.com. It will also appear as an e-book shortly.

As per September 1st 2010 Jos van der Sijde (1956) has been appointed head of the music department of the Prince Claus Conservatoire of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen.

Chris Fictoor to be appointed as ambassador to the Prins Claus Conservatoire
Groningen, 14 december 2010 – Chris Fictoor, Dean of the School of Performing Arts, has asked to be allowed to stand down from his current role on 1 September 2011. The Executive board has granted his request. From 1 September 2011 he will become ambassador for the Prince Claus Conservatoire and adviser to the Executive Board of Hanze University Groningen.

Obituary Rian de Waal

We are deeply saddened by the news that Rian de Waal passed away Wednesday May 25th.
Rian was artistic leader of the Peter the Great Festival, head of the Master of Music  and principal subject teacher classical piano. He was working on his PhD in our Research Group Lifelong Learning in Music & the Arts.
Rian has been seriously ill for quite some time. He will be missed tremendously.

Benny Golson guest at Swingin Groningen and PCC
The worldfamous saxophonist Mr Benny Golson will give a masterclass on Friday 14:00 at the Radesingel. This event is open to the public, no entrance fee. Mr Golson is one of the main acts of the free open air festival Swingin'Groningen that will take over the city centre this weekend.

The Executive Board has decided to appoint as off 1 September 2011 Mr. Harrie van den Elsen (54) as Dean of the School of Performing Arts.
He will be leading both Prince Claus Conservatoire and the Dance Academy Lucia Marthas.

New Classical Guitar Teacher: Sabrina Vlaskalic
One of today´s most promising guitar talents, Serbian born Sabrina Vlaskalic (1989) is the new classical guitar teacher at the Prince Claus Conservatoire, starting in the new school year. She is the youngest conservatoire teacher in Europe.

New Flute Teacher: Egbert Jan Louwerse
Groningen, July 2012 – As of September 1st, Egbert Jan Louwerse has been appointed as new flute teacher at the Prince Claus Conservatoire, part of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen. He takes over from Wieke Karsten who has been flute teacher at the Prince Claus Conservatoire for more than 15 years.
