Example of a theoretical exam and aural test

Part of the entrance exam of Prince Claus Conservatoire is the theoretical exam and aural test.
On this page you can download an example of such a test, so you can be well prepared. This is the actual exam of 2008-2009. The aural test is a dowloadable MP3 file, the other documents are pdf's.

 

A. Aural test
The aural test takes 25 minutes and consists of

1. scales
2. intervals (melodic)
3. intervals (harmonic)
4. triads (major, minor, diminished and augmented)
5. seventh cords (major, dominant, minor, half-diminished seventh, diminished)
6. rhythmic dictation
7. melodic dictation
8. harmonic listening (combination of chords and chord progression)

The exam is "realtime" and takes 25 minutes, including time for reflection and completing between the parts. This gives you an impression of the time and skills you need to complete this test in time. Attachments 1 and 2 are the forms you need for filling in the answers, attachements 3 and 4 are the correct answers.
