Type of course Day time, four years
Entry Requirements         Secondary High School diploma or similar, audition and English language skill level IELTS 5 (see below)

Study costs
Apart from the conservatoire (Hanze University Groningen) tuition fees and the cost of your instrument, you need to calculate between € 110 - € 360 for books, sheet music and other study material. Especially in the first year you will have a lot of theoretical subjects and will therefore need to spend more on books.

Entrance exam
Before you can study at the conservatoire you have to pass an entrance exam. This exam consists of two parts: a theory / aural test, and an audition. Each part is approximately 30 minutes in duration and both take place on the same day. It is most likely you will hear the same day if you can be admitted to the conservatoire. In special cases it is possible to send in a dvd instead of doing an audition. Click here for information. For more information about the Prince Claus Conservatoire you can send an e-mail to prinsclausconservatorium@org.hanze.nl  or call +31 50 595 1314 or 1312.

Apply for an entrance exam
You can apply until the 1st of May. The application procedure consists of two parts, firstly you have to send us some documents and secondly you have to apply for registration at the website Studielink.  To apply for an entrance examination click here.

If you are a foreign student, please also contact the International Student Office for information about various practical matters, such as adequate insurance, finding accomodation in Groningen, obtaining  a visa and residence and work permits.

If you are already studying at a conservatoire or similar and you want to be an exchange student within the Erasmus Programme, please contact the International Relations Officer of the Prince Claus Conservatoire Jan Gerd Krüger or the International Relations Officer of your own institute.

English study programme and language skills
The study programme of the Jazz education is offered mainly in the English language. In order
to be admitted to the first year, a demonstrable English language skill level IELTS 5 is required. This corresponds to a TOEFL score of 500, or a CEF score B2. For a number of educational units in years 2, 3 and 4, an IELTS level 6 is an entry requirement. During the intake procedure, the conservatoire determines the foreign students' English language skill level through a test.

IELTS provides a detailed assessment of the language skill of people for whom English is not the native language. Students with a skill level lower than IELTS 6 are expected to take part in an English language course through the Language Centre of the University of Groningen, or a comparable course elsewhere. Candidates who are admissible, but whose English language skill level is below IELTS 5, are offered the opportunity to achieve IELTS level 5 by taking part in a summer course during the summer. The Language Centre of the University of Groningen offers such summer courses.

Preparatory course/Young Talent Class
In the preparatory course and the Young Talent Class you gain an orientation/introduction to the full degree course and build a head start with your training. Click here for more information.

Funds
The conservatoire has a student fund and an instrument fund. Students can request money for such things as masterclasses or other educational activities abroad, or to help purchase or maintain an instrument. Click here for more information.
