In February 2005, a group of International Communication students started the Saidia Student Foundation. The foundation sets out to help motivated and gifted students from, so called, developing countries to come to Groningen for a semester.
Not everyone has that same chance to study abroad. Many students from developing countries will never study abroad, just because they do not have the finances. The Saidia Student Foundation want to make a difference by providing motivated and talented students with a scholarship to study in Groningen for one semester. Not only because it will help him or her, but also because the International Communication students will benefit from the experience to study together with someone from a country which is usually excluded from the programme, simply because of financial reasons.
Another goal of Saidia is to financially and physically support development projects abroad, for example by sending one of our students abroad as part of their internship period.
Saidia is aiming for the exchange of knowledge, experience and friendship. The Saidia Student Foundation is a foundation that is developed, led and run by students only.
Activities and events are organised throughout the year in order to raise sufficient funds. Additional support from businesses is greatly appreciated and always welcome.
