Introduction committee

Dear future International Communication student,

My name is Ellen Mannaerts, member of the introduction committee (KIC: Keen in Communication) of the School for Communication & Media. We have organized an amazing introduction week for all students that will start the International Communication major Bachelor programme in September (if you are an exchange or Master student, you will enjoy a different introduction programme and will receive information about this by e-mail). During this introduction week you will get to know your fellow students, your academic coordinator, Hanze University of Applied Sciences (UAS), the School of Communication & Media, and the city of Groningen.

The introduction at the School of Communication & Media starts on Wednesday 5 September at Hanze (UAS). Please note that Hanze UAS organises an International Welcoming Day on 31 August for all new non-Dutch students. So if you are a foreign student, do not miss that day!

During the introduction week you will meet your new classmates and together with them you will be introduced to digital learning and communication systems such as BlackBoard, Progress and MijnHanze. You will use these programmes throughout your studies. Please bring the log-in codes that you will receive (Dutch students receive this by post at home. International students receive this on the International Welcoming Day). Moreover you will receive information about Hanze UAS, the study programme, your class schedule and other important information regarding your studies.

On Thursday we will start the day in the city centre of Groningen, the best student city in the Netherlands! In groups you will explore Groningen, get to know you classmates better, and work on a special assignment. .

On Friday you will meet with your academic coordinator in the morning. In the afternoon you will continue to work on your assignment and all groups will then give a ten-minute presentation about the things explored during the introduction week. In the evening we will have dinner together and you are invited to our KIC introduction party.

This week will be fun, busy, and educative. That’s why this introduction week is obligatory! Exemption from participation is only possible with a medical statement, which can be hand in before 2 September to Ms. Ellen van der Zijde: e.l.van.der.zijde@pl.hanze.nl

We hope that we have informed and answered all of your current questions about the introduction week and we are looking forward meeting all of you in September! If you have any further urgent questions regarding the introduction, then feel free to contact Ms. Ellen van der Zijde.

Kind regards,
On behalf of the introduction committee,

Ellen Mannaerts
