International Communication students "help people help themselves"

For Hanze's talent campaign "Share your Talent, Move the World," International Communication honours student Kelly van Binsbergen plays a leading role in advertisement in major newspapers.

Inspired by fund raising events for the victims of the earthquake that hit Japan last year, International Communication honours student Kelly van Binsbergen decided to create the Initiative for Charity and Unity (ICU) together with four other International Communication students. Their motto is: "Help People Help Themselves."
Through a musical event called "Live stock in your Pudding," they raised a lot of money to buy live stock for families in Cameroon. This enables them to establish livelyhoods again. About the project, Kelly says: "I love doing this. I can work out my ideas and have a lot of responsibility. It's challenging in many ways."

Renowned intercultural scientist and author Geert Hofstede has commented on the project saying: "Kelly and her team have translated their idealism and the insight that they gained during their studies International Communication that societies can only develop themselves, into a practical initiative. "Help people help themselves" is a sensible motto."
