‘Mediastiek’ student Margriet de Schutter wins film prize

Communication student Margriet de Schutter has won the scenario prize of the Noordelijk Filmfestival (Northern Film Festival) in Leeuwarden.

Ms. de Schutter wrote the screenplay for a yet-to-be-made documentary looking behind the scenes of a successful athlete.

She won 4500 euros and a nationwide broadcast on Nederland 2 for the scenario.

Most people only see the flashy side of being an athlete but there are also difficult times – intensive training, being away from home, injuries and setbacks.

Ms. de Schutter has been skating day and night, since her 12th birthday, as a short-track skater. Shortly before the Olympics this year, she stopped with skating and is currently in the final phase of her bachelor’s degree in Communication.

The film based Ms. de Schutter’s scenario will premiere at next year’s Noordelijke Filmfestival . The film will be produced in collaboration with Stichting Beeldlijn from Groningen and Omrop Fryslân.
