E-CLIC: strengthening innovation together in an international environment
|
In the autumn of 2008 the E-CLIC project began, involving 16 partners from 6 countries around the North Sea. These are educational and research institutions, SMEs and government bodies. From the Netherlands the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, the Groningen Internet Exchange and the School of Computer Science are taking part. The project offers the partners almost unlimited opportunities to work together. The overarching goal is to foster innovation in the North Sea area, with broadband as the central theme. |
 | The project will last for three years and is subsidised by the EU. With this subsidy, it is possible to get all manner of projects underway in collaboration with local and/or international partners. This can happen either through virtual collaboration via broadband or through physical exchange of students and/or staff.
 |
For example, tutor Bart Barnard, together with Flemish, English and Swedish colleagues, will be developing a game about traffic rules. He is also working with the same Flemish partner and a Norwegian institution on a database with virtual (3D) objects that can be used in applications like games.
Another project underway in conjunction with Norwegian and Swedish partners is the study into opportunities for wireless communication in the offshore oil and gas sector, with the assistance of WiMax. They are also examining which new services can be offered to this sector via broadband. | In the various countries, E-CLIC centres have been set up, where newly starting businesses, students, staff and government authorities can meet. They are working together on innovative developments. The various centres work in their own local areas as well as with each other. This is strengthening the power of innovation internationally. The possibilities are almost unlimited. Many interesting projects are taking shape under the E-CLIC umbrella. If you have any further ideas for collaborative projects with the School of Computer Science within E-CLIC, we warmly invite you to get in touch with us.
