Today, product development requires a mix of specialists that know how to cooperate in order to obtain the best possible results: useful, functioning, desirable and sustainable products. Technology develops quickly and the changing market continuously demands new products and better performance. Newly graduated engineers need the knowledge, skills and working techniques to be effective in this work environment. As a design engineer you must be able to understand and present the effects of industrial designs. You must have a perspective on the role played by cultural differences, customer needs and innovative technology and their (strategic) impact on new products for a specific company. The IPD programme offers you that experience.
The IPD programme aims to let students experience integral product development in multidisciplinary teams. A project team consists of students from various engineering disciplines. The programme includes opportunities to work with industry: large enterprises and SMEs.
The IPD programme consists of two semesters (60 ECTS):
- IPD study semester (autumn, 30 ECTS)
- IPD project semester (spring, 30 ECTS)
The IPD study semester consists of several smaller projects and one main project for industry. The projects are supported by lectures in which the students on the one hand deepen the knowledge and skills of their own domain and on the other hand broaden their knowledge where it is crucial for a better understanding of the other team members. As the semester progresses, you will learn how to translate the newly gained knowledge into concrete designs.
The IPD project semester consists of a project of 30 ECTS. The project can be carried out in industry or at Hanze University Groningen.
