Are you interested in applying engineering solutions and principles in health care and its related industries? Then, International Biomedical Engineering is the perfect study course for you. You become specialized in improving health care diagnosis, monitoring and therapy. You combine design and problem solving skills of engineering with biomedical sciences in order to contribute to closing the gap between engineering and health care.
Biomedical engineering has become a separate discipline where research and development are dominant. It includes development of for example:
- Orthopedic assisting devices
- Clinical equipment
The focus of this course is on the design and production of medical devices.You will learn to design and develop applications that, literally, come in contact with people. These relate to surgical equipment, biomedical instrumentation and orthopedic devices (function restoration equipment).
Biomedical engineers work at the R&D departments of Health Care Industry. Employment could also be at an academic hospital or in academic research.
The first semester starts with a 3 week international Summer School in Wilhelmshaven (Germany).
The rest of the semester consists of two clusters: Fundamental Design and Design Optimization. Assignments come from the Health Care industry or the Medical Hospital. In this semester you work in project groups on the realisation of a Biomedical Device. Assisting theory modules are f.i. Circulation, Medical Instrumentation, Biomechanics and Orthopedics.
The second semester is dedicated to a project (in company), preferably focusing on a biomedical topic. Possibilities for performing this project are in healthcare industry, an academic hospital, or research centre.
