In today’s society it is impossible to bypass electrical engineering, which our prosperity depends on increasingly. Electronic Product Design and Engineering (EPDE) focuses on high end topics in electrical engineering. Embedded Systems (ES) and telecommunication are some aspects of this course. ES is used in a variety of domains and not only in Electronics, also in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Energy, Healthy Ageing, Car Industry, Domotics...
As a modern electronics engineer, you must be able to create, model and engineer inventive electronic product solutions. Creativity, realizing the importance of human factors and having a sound knowledge of analysis (what), design (how), implementation (build) and evaluation (test) are essential for the development of successful electronic products.
In addition, an electronics engineer is a team player, and works within a short time frame.
Programme
The Electronic Product Design and Engineering programme covers all major aspects of developing and engineering innovative electronics products. You will learn to master a competitive approach to hardware and software design and engineering. The EPDE programme is based on an advanced educational framework that emphasizes hands-on experience by labs and projects.
The EPDE programme consists of two semesters (60 ECTS):
- EPDE study semester (autumn, 30 ECTS)
- EPDE project semester (spring, 30 ECTS)
The EPDE study semester combines lectures (embedded systems, RF technologies and telecom, DSPs, VHDL, EMC, CAD design) and group assignments and individual assignments, including field trips and guest lecturers from the industry. The key element is the project group you participate in. In your first semester, you work on a project: analysis, design, implementation and evaluation of a new electronic product. In most cases the contractor is an industrial partner or the Groningen university. The project will give you essential hands-on experience for the project in the second semester.
In your EPDE project semester, you work on an in-company project and write a report.
*At first, exchange students can apply for the EPDE study semester. Motivated students with good results can extend their study semester with the project semester.
During the programme you participate in a group of students from various countries, including the Netherlands, and with diverse cultural backgrounds.
