Welcome to the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy
Dutch taught Programme
Health in “images”
You would like to work in health, work with people? You are also attracted by the latest technological developments? You find it a challenge to apply these.
For instance, in order to offer a patient optimal diagnosis and treatment?
Then our bachelor programme MIRT is exactly what you are looking for.
|What’ s it about
You must be familiar with an X-ray of a broken leg.
But MIRT is far more than that. You literally make images of health.
In our programme you learn everything about imaging and treatment in:
- radio diagnostics
- radio therapy
- nuclear medicine
How does the human body function, which kind of investigations can be done at which syndrome?
Which type of apparatus should you use and how do these work? What is the effect of radiation and radioactivity on the body and what means of protection are available? All these aspects you will learn about during your course.
Communication skills are a very important part of the programme. Indeed, as an MIRT professional you constantly deal with people: colleagues, doctors and foremost patients. For patients the examinations often are tense. Therefore it is very important to know how to deal with this.
In general the MIRT work areas may be classified concerning diagnostics (examination) and therapy (treatment) of the patient.
By examining the patient with the use of medical images, like X-rays, ultrasound and computer images of the functioning of the organs, you can make a diagnosis. Think of using:
Computer tornography (CT)
Magnetic resonance induction technique (MRI)
Positron emission tornography (PET-scan)
You may also treat the patient, for the therapy using radiotherapy or nuclear medicine.
Whatever you may choose in the MIRT field, you will always work both with people and technology. This combination guarantees an interesting and varying profession.Choosing MIRT, is choosing for variation.
