Supply Chain Management: a theoretical and practical framework
Nespresso is a machine-and-pod coffee concept for making espresso, developed by Nestlé. By fitting an aluminium coffee pod into the machine, perfect espresso can be made at the push of a button. The Nespresso case is one of the liveliest arguments that the future of competition will not so much be driven by innovation in products or services themselves, but by activities surrounding these products and services.
All organisations have supply chains of varying degrees, depending upon the size of the organisation and the type of product manufactured. These networks obtain supplies and components, change these materials into finished products and then distribute them to the customer. Included in this supply chain process are: customer orders, order processing, inventory, scheduling, transportation, storage, and customer service.
