Anne Nigten is opgeleid als mediakunstenaar aan de Rietveld Academie en voltooide haar promotieonderzoek (PhD) aan Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, onderdeel van de University of the Arts in London. Zij is een veelgevraagd spreker en heeft een groot aantal publicaties op haar naam staan.
Zij is professioneel actief op het snijvlak van populaire cultuur, kunst en samenleving waarbij praktijkgericht onderzoek met kunst wordt verweven. Daarbij richt zij zich in het bijzonder op transdisciplinaire samenwerking en de maatschappelijke impact van kunst en innovatie.
Anne Nigten verdiende haar sporen in een managementfunctie bij V2_Lab en als oprichter van The Patching Zone in Rotterdam, waarvan zij tevens directeur is. The Patching Zone is een transdisciplinair laboratorium voor innovatie, waar studenten, onderzoekers en professionals van verschillende achtergrond samenwerken aan opdrachten met veelal een maatschappelijke component. Daarbij wordt creatief gebruik gemaakt van high-tech materialen, digitale media en/of informatietechnologie.
Met ingang van 2011 is zij daarnaast lector Popular Culture, Sustainability & Innovation bij het kenniscentrum Kunst & Samenleving van de Hanzehogeschool Groningen.
