General

The International Biomedical Engineering Programme (IBE) brings medical and engineering problems together and enables you to work as a biomedical engineer all over the world. The programme is a specialisation within Engineering for the final year of a bachelor study.
A biomedical engineer is a designer of equipment in all fields where man is more than normally dependent on technical apparatus. This may be a pacemaker, an artificial hipjoint, a wheelchair, a micro-manipulator for a surgeon, but also a tennisracket or a basketballshoe for professionals.

Inspiring international studying environment
Studying in an international programme at the Hanze University Groningen means studying in an inspiring international environment. You will be working on assignments and projects together with fellow students from different backgrounds.

Excursions and guest lectures from professionals in the field of biomedical engineering ensure that the programme is absorbing and varied. You will learn how to work both independently and together in (international) teams. The programme prepares you in a practical direction for a career in which there will always be something new for you to discover.

Career options

As an engineer you may be working in the research and development department of a company, in prototyping and production preparation and related areas: testing, application, marketing, purchasing, logistics.
Biomedical engineers are found also in larger academic hospitals and universities.
