Alannah Colgan
Law student from Ireland

‘It was a great opportunity’

Why have you chosen to study International Law?

I study at the LYIT in Ireland and thought it was a great opportunity to see a new place and to learn about International Law, in particular European Union Law.

What did you learn from it, so far? And what do expect to have learned at the end of the semester?

I have learned so much, it is pretty amazing the amount of work I have covered so far. I have learned all about the EU and the institutions that make up the EU, the Four Fundamental Freedoms, International Contract law, Child labor law, Human rights and also Intellectual Property law. By the end of this semester I hope to have a good knowledge of International law.

Do you have Extracurricular activities besides your study?

Here at the Hanzehogeschool I do not have Extracurricular activities besides my study. The study takes up a lot of time and I also want to have time for sightseeing! In Ireland I do a lot of extracurricular activities (martial arts, yoga, and also walking)…

What do you think of Groningen?

I really enjoy walking, checking out new places in Groningen and getting snap shots with my camera. And  as most students I would like to go out at night in the center of Groningen.

What is your future goal in relation to your international ambitions?

Good question, I am not 100% sure yet what area I am heading towards. My plan for the moment is to see where the road takes me…as well as to enjoy the road while it is taking me there….
