Social media, apps, mobile information: the world is changing rapidly for information professionals! You need to think in terms of what the customer needs, of what tools he uses, not of what you have to offer. For information professionals innovation is essential.

This minor and exchange programme will teach you what these innovations are and how you can advise organizations who want to innovate with their information for their customers (within or outside their organization). You will focus on all the aspects that are important for creating and maintaining an innovative information service: marketing, trends, systems, e-business. You will look at innovative trends, learn the project management method Scrum, learn to understand and analyse the business environment and actual business planning in order to formulate new innovation strategies. In the project you will advise an organisation or company on how to deal with a (real life) question in this area.

International classes

Because of the international character of the programme we will take time for the intercultural experience during this semester. Cooperation activities with students or staff of a university or organization abroad will be part of our programme. Costs for the visit are approximately €100-150. Attendance is compulsory.

Outcomes

Learning outcomes should be shared and spread! That is why we encourage all students to present them outside Hanze UAS, preferably at BOBCATSSS, a three days conference for information sciences specialists. Costs for this mandatory conference are approximately €300.

The program is very student-centered:

  • As a group we will select most of the subjects.
  • A substantial part of the programme will be desk research and field research on different subjects by you and your group. Results of the research will be presented to each other and other groups, in interactive sessions.
  • You will prepare a conference poster, paper or workshop.
  • You can invite guest speakers to discuss specific hot topics and recent trends.
