Groningen is officially the best student city in the Netherlands

Groningen is the best student city in the Netherlands according to Elsevier. Nijmegen and Utrecht have been named as second and third respectively.

Cities in the Netherlands with at least 1000 full-time students, were compared. 3 topics were analysed. The first being, the attractiveness of bars, clubs and restaurants. Students were asked through the National Student Survey (NSE) about their thoughts and preferences on bars, clubs and restaurants.

The NSE also allowed students to share their opinions about cultural hotspots in their city. This was the second comparison point.

The percentage of students within a cities’ population was also researched, as the third comparison point. Cities with a larger density of students have more opportunities for students and there is a higher chance of meeting other students. Groningen has the highest percentage of students. Students were also most satisfied with Groningen's bars, clubs and cultural activities.
