Jeff Gorcester

Dr. Jeff Gorcester is Professor of Sustainable Fuel and Gas at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, The Netherlands. He has a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Cornell University. After a postdoc at the University of Leiden, Jeff joined Royal Dutch Shell where he worked for circa 30 years as a Research Scientist, Chemical Engineer, Project Economist, Portfolio and Project Manager. Jeff held positions with Shell in The Netherlands, Scotland, Nigeria and the Russian Federation. Since leaving Shell at the end of 2020, Jeff has been carrying out research into renewable fuels and the energy transition investment case.
Jeff’s research is focused on the chemical conversion of waste materials into renewable fuels powered by wind and solar energy. By converting waste into fuel at its point of origin, the research aspires to reduce energy consumption, conserve valuable raw materials, reduce the environmental impact of waste disposal, and reduce the cost of renewable fuels. Making the transition to sustainable business models an attractive investment case for private industry in the short- to medium-term.
