The further growth of offshore wind farms in particular will require a further increase in the transport capacity of the energy generated there to industry and residential areas. Within a number of years, the current electricity grid will no longer be sufficient to transport all this electrical energy. An alternative to investing in more electric transport capacity is the use of (ex)gas pipelines. To do this, the electrical energy must first be converted to hydrogen.
In order to keep the electrical energy generated by wind farms cheap after conversion to hydrogen, it is important that the conversion from electrical to hydrogen is affordable. In this way, the cost price of hydrogen can remain affordable.
