Preparatory Course

​​​In this quality-driven Preparatory Course you will improve your English language skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking. You will also gain valuable experience in group work and presentation skills, which are essential for studying in the Netherlands. Alongside this, you will acquire important knowledge and understanding of international communication techniques.

All courses are given by experienced university lecturers and every prep course student is guided by senior students from a range of countries.

Located at Zernike Campus, Groningen, the preparation provided in the course allows you to feel more at ease in the study environment in the Netherlands, so you can achieve your full potential in your future bachelor's or master's study.

Programme

One semester of learning essential skills

The Prep Course includes  English classes and six weeks of special projects. During the course you will focus on essential skills, like writing reports and doing presentations. also study complementary subjects, such as information technology, cultural awareness and study skills. All subjects are taught in English, in order for you to become more familiar with the international study environment.

English (18 hours per week)

In the English course, you will practice and develop your communication skills in English. You will build your confidence in both written and spoken English, increase your business vocabulary, review the essential grammar items, practice (business) report writing and give presentations. Training in the area of pronunciation will be given on an individual basis.

Information technology and information gathering techniques (2 hours per week)

You will learn how to gather relevant information from the internet and manage it in a structured way. You will also become familiar with various software programmes such as Word and PowerPoint.

Study skills

You will be introduced to the essential study skills you need to study successfully in a higher educational environment such as the International Business and Management Studies programme. Amongst others, these skills include reading strategies and interactive skills that you will need for group and project work.

Cultural awareness

You will be introduced to the concept of culture and the differences between cultures.

Social programme

A varied social programme has been integrated in the Prep Course. It includes excursions to places of interest and participation in social events. Several guest lecturers will be invited throughout the course.


 

Practical Information

Admission requirements

You must have an English level of at least IELTS 5.5. The sub scores must not be lower than 5.0. Students must also meet all of the other admission requirements for the programme they intend to follow after the Prep Course.

The certificate

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will receive a certificate issued by Hanze UAS.

Starting date

The Prep Course runs in February each year. The next start date is February 2018.
