Smart Energy allows groups of students to do challenging multidisciplinary projects on the cutting edge of energy and computer science. You will work in small project groups in close cooperation with their clients (from the Dutch energy and IT sectors), under the supervision of an experienced lecturer/coach). Our projects are always based on current problems/opportunities from the clients and require a certain amount of research and a proactive mind set.

*Please note that this minor is offered in Dutch (semester 1) and English (semester 2).

About this minor

The first half of the semester focuses on design science research, software engineering and the societal factors that influence the energy transition. The second half focuses on the business opportunities in the energy transition and sustainable technologies such as "smart" electricity grids.

The semesters consists of:
- Weekly lectures on energy and computer science
- Weekly project group tutoring
- Client meetings every other week
Energy Academy Europe workshops and seminars

Assessment is based on (30 ECTS in total):
- Group progress report (7.5 ECTS)
- Group progress presentation (2.5 ECTS)
- Individual assessment based on written portfolio "Society" (5 ECTS)
- Group final report (7.5 ECTS)
- Group final presentation (2.5 ECTS)
- Individual assessment based on written portfolio "Business "(5 ECTS)

Peer-assessment of the project work results in an individual grade. 

Before you can start

This minor is open to all students from Hanze UAS, other universities in the Netherlands (KOM) and exchange students. You have to be in the main phase of your study. A propaeduetic certificate is not required. Please note that exchange students can only apply for the second semester since the first semester this minor will be taught in Dutch.
