Music is an integral part of our society. Beyond performing on traditional stages, there is a growing demand for musicians who can make a meaningful societal impact. How can musicians create music with others in meaningful ways? What does a performance in the future look like? How can artistic research be designed in such a way that musicians collaborate with professionals from other domains on shared challenges? The Research Group Music in Context conducts practice-based research into these questions. It focuses on the development and practice of musicians when they are working both within and beyond the arts.
We initiate research and innovation projects in collaboration with colleagues from the Prince Claus Conservatoire and with external partners, both from the music field and other domains, such as healthcare. The Research Group is affiliated with the Prince Claus Conservatoire and is part of the Research Centre Art & Society.
