What STARS EU stands for

The STARS EU alliance focuses on regional transition, sustainable innovation and technological progress. Within the alliance, Hanze students and staff work together with European partners on solutions to societal challenges.

Three key themes

  • Green transition
  • Digital transformation
  • Inclusion and social justice

These themes are in line with the needs of the Northern Netherlands and STARS EU's other eight regions and offer concrete opportunities for research, innovation and educational innovation.

The STARS EU alliance is part of the European Commission's European Universities Initiative, which promotes international cooperation, strengthens higher education and increases Europe's competitiveness. STARS EU is truly a European university: we connect students, staff, knowledge and campuses, both physically and virtually.

What can you do within STARS EU?

STARS EU offers Hanze students and staff plenty of opportunities to develop internationally and to actively contribute to the strategic goals of the institution. Think of exchanges of about a week up to a semester in length, international internships, job shadowing, and participation in living labs in which students, researchers, companies and social organisations work together on regional issues.

Students can also stand for election for a position on the STARS EU Student Board. Staff members can contribute to the further development of the curriculum, participate in research projects and exchange knowledge and experience with colleagues from the European network.
