Aloyce is the head of the journalism department at the University of Iringa (UoI). UoI and Hanze worked together on the Nuffic TMT+ project from 2020 till 2023 to create a short-term journalism degree for journalists working in the field, who need to obtain a mandatory degree to keep publishing.
“We were very invested in this project, the content about media in general, improving teaching and learning and bringing new ideas to improve curriculums. We have had this long fight to have a 1 year diploma course, but couldn’t get it accredited by the National Accreditation Body (TCU). TCU thought 1 year was not enough for the content. But the aim was, to train journalists who are already on the job, but working without a diploma. So they are already trained professionals and then one year is really enough! Together with Tumaini University Dar es Salaam we were able to at least have a two-year program accredited and approved by TCU. The dream remains to have the 1 year program, but we are much closer now.”
“I enjoyed so many things working with Hanze. Our team at Iringa got exposure from the Netherlands and got so inspired to so many things for the benefit of our students. All the benefits we had from the project, it would have taken us many years to achieve the same results, but now it is done in only a few. The University of Iringa students are now copying the Hanze students with making the news bulletins and making their own news-show. It helps them with the experience and it was all inspired by Hanze.”
