Diana is Assistant Lecturer in the Journalism department at University of Iringa (UoI). UoI and Hanze worked together on the Nuffic TMT+ project from 2020 till 2023 to create a short-term journalism degree for journalists working in the field, who need to obtain a mandatory degree to keep publishing.
“My expectation of the project was in generally to learn about new ways of journalism. One of the challenges we are facing as journalists in Tanzania: we are gradually moving from analog to digital mediums, although we are already there, so we were using analog methods for digital media.
We have been exposed to social media tools, how to use them. It has changed my perspective in journalism. Before we were just struggling and trying to find ways on how to work efficiently, but we never knew about what the tools could bring us and make it so much easier.
I also realized much more that as journalists, we can do so much more with all the tools that are taught to us. Such as campaigning for social change and advocating for more gender equality for example. I know how to include other people to make sure things can change.”
