Dr. Zaharan Hussein Mgina belongs to the department of applied sciences college of Science and Technical education. He is the coordinator for the TMT+ agricultural project at Mbeya University of Science and Technology.

We are dealing with innovations that come across the whole university, the students, the staff and everyone. Even the people outside the university. To bring them along all the way from ideation, to prototype, to product or service or solution up to the commercialisation stage.

The project was very necessary. The university of Science and Technology had a plan to establish a college of agriculture science and technology. The plan specified to have enough staff with desired skills and capacity to do the job but that also a program that went in line with the development of academic programs in agricultural sciences.

The project came at the right time, because now we get to build the capacity of our staff, but also having the structure in place. Through the project we were able to develop two curricula.  On top of that we also needed good infrastructure. The project gave us a lot of output we otherwise wouldn’t have had.
