Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship

The Professorship Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship examines complex legal issues at a strategic and tactical level that are relevant to (social) entrepreneurs. The aim of the professorship is to ensure that legislation and regulations better align with the needs of entrepreneurs.

The professorship conducts research together with entrepreneurs, lecturers and students on themes related to increasing the social impact of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the region, procurement with social conditions, and the formation of cooperatives. In addition, the professorship contributes to issues in the fields of governance, public-private collaboration and cybersecurity.

The focus of the applied legal research of the professorship is on:

  1. Digital transformation: providing practical support for entrepreneurs and (semi-)public organisations in addressing legal issues related to digital applications.
  2. Impact entrepreneurship: strengthening impact-driven entrepreneurship. The functioning of legislation and regulations is examined from the perspective of entrepreneurs, with an emphasis on entrepreneurs’ own decision-making autonomy and the prevention of excessive regulatory burden.
  3. Governance: strengthening regional collaboration between entrepreneurs and cooperation with government, with an emphasis on (European) public procurement law, the formation of cooperatives and public-private collaboration.
