Collaboration

Share your talent. Move the world – is our motto that captures Hanze University of Applied Sciences (Hanze UAS) in a nutshell. In order to realize our ambition to tackle today’s pressing challenges, collaborations with our regional partners are important. Regional partners include the business community, civic organisations, policymakers, politicians, fellow educational institutions, etc.

We at Hanze, have many strong bilateral collaborations that are specific to projects and with many different partners in the region. We participate actively in regional initiatives such as the University of the North, the New Energy Coalition and The Groningen Alliance and facilitate or participate in numerous living labs, which aim to foster regional innovation ecosystems focussed on knowledge development and dissemination.

We are on this journey that is still in progress, learning to find ways to successfully transfer lessons learnt from individual projects to ensure lasting impacts on the region and the innovation ecosystem. Prevailing collaborations need to go beyond individual projects on an ad hoc basis; we need to work towards sustained investments for a knowledge-driven regional economy. We do this in a broad variety of partnerships.

Working together on societal challenges

We work together in a broad variety of partnerships.

The Groningen Alliance
The Groningen Alliance (TGA) is a strategic partnership between the University of Groningen (UoG), the Hanze University of Applied Sciences (HUAS), the University Medical Centre Groningen (UMCG), Martini Hospital, the province of Groningen, Noorderpoort, Alfa-college and the municipality of Groningen.

Both in the collaboration within the Alliance, and between the Alliance and businesses, the metropolitan region of Groningen already plays a major role in solving 21st-century challenges. A joint focus on research and the exchange of knowledge and skills ensures that our region can realize major economic growth through existing businesses and new innovative startups.

The University of the North
The University of the North is a knowledge and innovation network consisting of five Northern knowledge institutions. We work together in the three northern provinces of the Netherlands.

UASnl
UASNL is a collaboration of 17 Dutch Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS), who work together to strengthen their European research profile. Through the EU office in Brussels, UASNL contributes to policy developments, builds European partnerships and shows the value of applied research in answering the challenges Europe faces. In UAS, knowledge valorisation, applied scientific research and educational activities are strongly intertwined. Labs, projects, internships and workplace learning are often implemented in research programmes.

STARS EU
We are nine complementary universities from various European regions collaborating on development of a future-oriented STARS European University. We have teamed up to grow together through research in key subjects, the promotion of common teaching programmes and innovative pedagogic methods and approaches.

New Energy Coalition
New Energy Coalition is a continuously growing network of knowledge institutions, businesses, government bodies and ngo’s working together to accelerate the energy transition for a sustainable future. For a sustainable future, the energy transition is crucial. The task is large, complex and global. Collaboration is the key to success.

Hanze Centre for Development Cooperation
For 25 years, Hanze UAS has been committed to improving education in developing countries to ensure that everyone has access to quality education. We do this by contributing to the self-reliance of higher education institutions in developing countries. These activities are coordinated within Hanze UAS by the Hanze Centre for Development Cooperation (HCDC), a small expertise agency in the field of development cooperation. The Hanze Centre for Development Cooperation consists of three different components: Hanze Capacity building, Hanze University Foundation and the Hanze East Africa Hub.
