The main challenge for every Information Technology (IT) organization is to meet the demand of the user community with services of the expected quality at the expected price. The world of IT is ever changing, driven by new technologies that create more user features. At the other hand the business is changing just as rapidly, adjusting to stay in the market and responding to clients' needs and wishes. IT Management is right in the middle of this turbulent work field.

Managing IT is a great challenge. Many companies have a love-hate relationship with their internal IT departments and external IT suppliers. Users and IT-specialists seem to live in different worlds. They do not speak the same language. Whereas users complain about IT, IT-specialists maintain that users show a tendency to dig their heels in. This is one of the big challenges in the world of IT. In our programme we focus on how to deliver the right services at the right price and quality, in a continuously changing customer world. This is where technology and organisations meet.

What you will learn:

  • Leading market standards such at ITIL (version 3.0) for organising IT and Prince 2 for managing IT projects
  • Change and operational release management and structured testing
  • Managing IT organisations
  • (Out)sourcing and service level management

Outcome

The programme provides you with insight, know-how and experience to work as a professional in IT management. Leading standards and theory form a frame of reference. The associated learning tasks will help you put theory into practice and achieve the required competencies. As a result you will be able to design and execute a 'Change and Release' in a medium-sized company. You will also be able to give advice on changes in IT services, while focusing on connecting IT functionality to business requirements.

"I'm not hiring students for the technology you learn while in school, but for your ability to learn about, use and subsequently manage new technologies when you get out."
- IT Executive, Federal Express

Programme

The programme is integrated: you learn the theory in lectures. This knowledge is applied and further mastered in study assignments. The study assignments are conducted in international project groups with the aid of real cases from the industry. Teamwork in international/multicultural groups is an important skill for working successfully in IT management and is given substantial focus. (Business) management consultancy is also a key skill for professionals in this industry and is included in the programme.
