Misconduct Complaints Committee

Students and staff who are personally confronted with misconduct can submit a complaint to the Misconduct Complaints Committee. Think, for example, of intimidation, aggression or violence, whether or not sexual in nature, verbal and psychological violence such as bullying or deliberately ignoring it.

Procedure for (former) students

A complaint must meet a number of conditions; the complaint is written in Dutch or English, is signed and contains at least: name and address of the complainant, date, description of the complaint and against whom it is addressed with substantiation. The complaint may be lodged within a period of one year after the situation has arisen. Students may be assisted by a confidential advisor.

Foreign students can request an interpreter from the Misconduct Complaints Committee to assist them in the procedure. English-language documents are translated by the Misconduct Complaints Committee. Upon receipt of the complaint, the complainant receives an acknowledgement of receipt and, if the complaint has been correctly lodged, the defendant is given the opportunity to submit a statement of defence within a period specified for that purpose. This statement of defence and any other documents shall be sent to the complainant in copies. The parties shall then be heard in a closed session. The complaints committee has the opportunity to interview witnesses. Within forty days of receipt of the complaint, the Complaints Committee will issue a written decision, which may also include an opinion with the complaint. This period may be extended by twenty working days if necessary.

The decision with the opinion, if applicable, will be sent to the Executive Board. The parties will receive a copy thereof. The Executive Board will take a decision within two weeks on the basis of the opinion issued and communicate its decision as soon as possible to the complainant, the defendant and the complaints committee.
