Doede Binnema has been a professor of Biobased Ingredients at the Research Centre Biobased Economy since 2011. Since september 2016 he has also been the Leading Professor at the Research Centre.
He has more than 20 years of experience in the modification and characterisation of carbohydrates. He obtained his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Groningen in 1981. Doede conducted his PhD research at the Gaubius Institute of TNO in Leiden on prosthetics involved in fibrinolysis. After a two-year post-doc position at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, he became head of the Biochemistry Department of the Netherlands Institute for Carbohydrate Research at TNO in Groningen in 1990.
Between 1998 and 2009, Doede worked at TNO Quality of Life as project leader/ senior scientist. In this position, he was involved in projects on carbohydrate modification and ingredient development. Between 2009 and 2011, he worked as project manager Agri-Food & Life Sciences at Technology Center Noord-Nederland.
Doede Binnema retired in early 2024. His research will be continued in the professorship Biomolecules and Health, lead by professor Fin Milder.
