We will keep you informed of the situation regarding the weather, accessibility and what that means for Hanze here. New updates are always at the top.
The thaw has set in, weather alarms have been lifted and public transport is running again. This means that classes and exams will resume on location and the advice to work from home no longer applies.
The exams that were cancelled last week and this morning will be rescheduled as soon as possible. Students will receive a message from their study programme about this.
Thank you all for your flexibility, dedication and the quick transition to online teaching and working. Of course, it is still winter, so please continue to keep an eye on the latest weather and travel information in the coming period. Good luck with your exams and welcome back to our buildings!
The KNMI has now issued code orange until 10:00 and Qbuzz has indicated that no buses will run until 12:00 due to the slippery conditions.
Therefore, Monday 12 January applies:
All buildings are open, with minimal occupancy. So keep in mind that the usual services, such as catering, are not available everywhere.
The Hanze Library is open from 13:30 and can be reached by phone all day long.
Rehearsal rooms in the Prins Claus Conservatorium are available for activities throughout the day.
Furthermore, the following will continue to apply:
Rescheduling exams
The exams that were cancelled last week, and the scheduled exams that will not take place tomorrow morning, will be rescheduled as soon as possible. Students will receive a message from their study programme about this.
Stay informed
We understand that this decision, especially with the exam week in sight, causes inconvenience. Nevertheless, it is necessary for safety and accessibility reasons. The weather is unpredictable. That is why we are continuously monitoring the situation. In case of any changes, we will inform you as soon as possible via this news blog and Instagram.
After a cold winter weekend, the thaw will set in tonight. Especially in the north, this can lead to treacherous slippery conditions during the night and tomorrow morning, with possible consequences for traffic and public transport. It is still uncertain which decisions transport companies will take tomorrow morning.
Safety and accessibility are paramount. In order to provide clarity to everyone in time, we have decided that no exams, lessons and activities will take place on location until 10.30 am on 12 January. We realize that this causes inconvenience, especially with an exam week coming up. Nevertheless, we do not think it is responsible to allow education and testing to continue on location under these circumstances. We ask you for your understanding.
On January 12, until 10:30 a.m.:

Outlook Monday 12 January
The weather forecasts are still uncertain. Based on the current predictions and reports, we assume that we will be able to reopen regularly next week and exams, tests and classes will resume on location and the advice to work from home will be lifted. However, the following will continue to apply:
Leave on time and keep a close eye on the current travel information (Qbuzz, Arriva, NS).
If you cannot come to a location, but it is necessary for tests, exams or your programme, please contact your study programme.
Safety comes first. Take care of yourself and others. When making choices, take your safety into account.
